VSTE Goes Green: Over the years we’ve made an effort to reduce the amount of paper waste that gets accumulated by reducing the scope of the printed program. This year we will provide a printed conference program with only a summary schedule of the sessions available during each breakout session. For the full detailed listing of each session we encourage attendees to make use of our online schedule here which will work on mobile devices and all major platforms.

Architecting Wireless Networks for Phase 2 Enterprise Gigabit Standards (802.11ac)

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In school networks where the push and funding to support 1:1 computing density, more graphics and streaming video, the demand for greater bandwidth in the classroom is insatiable. There is no ability to provide switched infrastructure like wired networks, so it's 802.11ac to the rescue. Or is it? An amazing number of bottlenecks out there impede performance in wireless networks as we know them. Emerging Phase 2 standards for 802.11ac (Gigabit Ethernet) will require greater aggregation and higher speed access point connections. To complicate matters, 802.11ac only runs in the 5GHz range which means less coverage per radio. How will these changes in bandwidth and placement impact your existing wired infrastructure (cabling, switches and policies)? If you are wondering how a high speed wireless network protocol designed for consumer use is going to help or hinder you in bringing greater value to the educational front lines, come and talk to us and each other as we explore how this is all unfolding and see what the industry giants are planning for you next!
