VSTE Goes Green: Over the years we’ve made an effort to reduce the amount of paper waste that gets accumulated by reducing the scope of the printed program. This year we will provide a printed conference program with only a summary schedule of the sessions available during each breakout session. For the full detailed listing of each session we encourage attendees to make use of our online schedule here which will work on mobile devices and all major platforms.

NETS-T Certification: Maximizing Technology Integration

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

NETS-T Certification is an internationally recognized program that engages teachers in a deeply reflective, intensive process to determine if their instructional technology practices meet the standards set forth by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). James Madison University developed a certification program in 2003, updated it in 2008 and is the only NETS-T university certification program in existence. In 2013, it expanded from a face-to-face, in-house professional development concept, to a distance-learning concept, currently working with educators from California and local school districts in Virginia. The current program uses synchronous and asynchronous tools, and offers graduate credit upon successful completion. This opportunity is for self-directed learners, confident in their use of technology, and eager to measure their use of technology in the classroom against an international standard. As one NETS-T certified teacher said, “The certification process helped me to understand how to teach skills that students will need regardless of the technological platform or gadget”, and another, “ Teachers of all ages and at any point in their careers will benefit from the self reflection and innovation required to accomplish NETS*T certification. The end result is a teacher that has shown they are a lifelong learner, experienced and willing to build learning projects that foster student creativity and innovation. Who achieves NETS-T Certification? This session will explain the NETS-T process and benefits to it participants and to their students. The synchronous and asynchronous tools will be demonstrated as well as a program overview.
